Fringe Coffee in Bowness

Fringe Coffee opened with a bare bones design. Their goal was to open, and add onto design concepts as the business succeeded. I consulted with Fringe Coffee early on for ways to enhance their open floor plan into a cozy cafe. Below are pictures of the cafe when they opened, and inspirations at various budgets.

The clients needed a space for customers to work and talk, but also have a space for events. They wanted their design to bring people to the cafe (instagram worthy designs).

I wanted to use botanical installations to provide a walking traffic flow from the entrance, to the cafe counter, and out again (or to a seat). A trough was going to be used as a divider from customers waiting to pick up their coffee and those who were sitting.

To provide a sense of privacy and belonging to the seating area I wanted to create a divide between the cafe door and the seating area. The thought was to allow private conversations and customers working to not be distracted from those coming and going through the door.

Large plants were also going to be used to create a divide between seats. This would provide a sense of privacy and help absorb the noise.

All items were going to be mobile so space would be created when events were happening at the cafe. This flexibility to go from cozy and private to and an open event space was high on the clients design needs.
